Here we see the two halves of the top after they have been glued
together. I have drawn the outline of the guitar on the top
to
make sure everything will fit. At this point in the process the top is
about 150 mills thick. If you look closely at the top and the bottom of
the joined pieces you will notice they are very slightly offset.
I do this so I can easily find the joint line. |

I spend a fair bit of effort on making the joint line of the two halves
all but invisible. This picture is a closeup of the two
joined
halves. You can find the joint line in this picture by
following
the growth rings to where they end in the middle of the picture. |

Now I have turned my attention to the sides. In this picture
I am
using my drum sander to reduce the thickness of the sides to 100 mils.
I slowly reduce the thickness by repeatedly running the sides
through the sander raising the platen about 5 mils each time. |

After the sides have been sanded to 100 mils thickness I use these
templates to draw the outline on the wood. I am careful to
line
up the figure on the two halves so they will match when the guitar is
assembled. |
